Mt.Diablo and the Meteor shower
Posted: Sunday, December 27, 2009 by Ian Howerton inAll of these pics are from when my roomies and I rented a car to drive outside the city for the Leonid meteor shower. We drove up to the top of Mt. Tamalpais to try and catch the meteor shower. Mt. Tamalpais is part of the park that is connected to Golden Gate Bridge. It's usually where everyone takes the iconic shots of the bridge and the city. However, being on the west coast the constellation Leo was so close to the horizon we didn't really see much. The great thing though is that we drove out to Mt. Diablo the next day and it totally made up for it. Supposedly from the top of the mountain you can see more land mass than anywhere in the world except for Mt. Kilimanjaro. I'm not sure if this is true or not but you can see for a long, long, long way. It was really quite refreshing to be out of the city and a spectacular site to add to my travel book. The funny part was that we were all so entranced watching the fog roll in and the sun set from the west we forgot about the fact that they lock the gates at sunset. We had to race to the bottom and barely made it out of the park.
