I had my first classes last week and absolutely love all of them. All of my teachers are great at what they do and are just as passionate as I. My favorite two though are printmaking(it's nice to do fine art again and get my hands dirty) and of course photography. My photography teacher is amazing at what he does. Check him out.

Here's a little taste of my first studio sesh. Expect much, much, much more from me this semester.
All of those photos were shot by another student in class. We had to do portraits of each other for our first assignment. I did however crop and edit the last one to use as my primary photo for other websites. This next set are the ones that I took. The second to last photo my teacher was amazed by my lighting technique that I used and how I was able to get such an even tone across the face. I used a bare bulb directly behind the umbrella on full power. However I also had the soft box on the other side of him. The soft box has a huge white sheet surrounded by black cloth enclosing the bulb. The soft box was not plugged in but the diffused light from the bare bulb through the umbrella was bounced back off the white cloth of the soft box and that's how I got the dramatic lighting effect. My last photo he said was a perfect portrait and that I needed to hang on to it for my portfolio. It had perfect exposure as well as interesting contrast between my key light (soft box) and my fill light (bare bulb) reflected off the white wall backdrop. He also was impressed that I was able to take these without reflections on the glasses. Not a an easy task I will admit.
