On Feb. 26th my printmaking class took a little field trip to the Achenbach to look over prints from the masters. It was extremely awesome and inspiring because we got to sit in a private room with a curator! She pulled out the prints, gave a description of the artist and medium and then sent them around the table on an easel. We got to look at Rembrandts, Picassos, Hokusais, Jasper Johns, Warhols and many more. It was insane to sit that close to these prints that many of these artists had done themselves. We actually saw Picasso's second etching print he had ever done in his life. Crazy stuff. It was an overwhelming experience that inspired me for our next two projects. One of them was to draw sketches from the museum and the other was an etching of a dreams/nightmares sketch. AWESOME assignments. Here is what I chose to draw from the museum. We had to transfer it to a copper plate and hand carve it in with a needle. I'll post a photo of the actual print soon. I'm still working on my nightmare sketch. Look for it soon as well.
